She is a creative artist who transforms everyday functional items into unique objects of curious beauty and interest. She pulls on their historical, spiritual and cultural relevance while drawing on sustainability in practice through enabling and supporting local artisan development. She uses lighting as a medium to draw attention to intricate parts of design as a juxtaposition of ancient artistic practices with modernism. Her practice draws upon the concepts of reclamation and up-cycling materials. Born on November 14th, 1974 in Lagos, Nigeria to a family that adored its heritage and culture, Emi’s love of Arts and Crafts was established through her education in Nigeria and the United Kingdom as well as her travels through Europe, Asia and Africa. Art and culture has always been a constant theme in her life- even when educational and career choices didn’t seem to reflect that passion. Emi holds a Master’s degree in Urban planning from City University of New York and she spent several years in the USA exploring and learning technical and practical skills from jewellery making to gemology. Emi returned to Nigeria in 2006 and undertook corporate and strategic roles in supply chain systems, learning how to establish her own arts industry.
